got around to swapping out the original instrument cluster for one with a tachometer on my 2000 corolla. put my original speedometer back in and replaced all the light bulbs. everything works fine, except the left turn signal doesnt light up on the panel. the outside lights blink fine, but the panel light doesnt. took it back out and re-replaced the bulb with another new one, and the same thing happens. all the other parts work fine. any ideas? thanks

just spent the last hour or so looking thru the old threads. other people have had this problem and it seems to be related to non compatible cluster swapps. I bought mine on ebay and it was advertised as 2000 cluster. I wonder whether it was really a 2001 or 02?. has anyone ever fixed this problem? some of the threads are 2-3 years old and as far as I can tell no one has posted a solution. damn :headbang:

Makes sense seeing as Toyota changed a number of things externally and internally with the 2001 - 2002 models. If you're savvy with wiring, you can try to trace your original cluster with the new one and switch around the wiring? I've never looked at it directly so I don't know if it's that simple.

I had the same problem when I swapped out my instrument cluster. What happened was that one of the copper PCB traces tore when the last guy disconnected one of the connectors from the cluster, so the turn signal does not connect between the connector and the circuit board.

If you find a broken trace in the PCB, it's pretty easy to fix: use an X-acto knife and carefully shave away the green plastic covering the broken copper trace on both sides of the broken trace, until copper is exposed. Then use a soldering gun and melt a small bead of copper connecting the two traces together. Watch out because you can melt the thin plastic PCB pretty quickly.

Finally got around to re-replacing the instrument cluster on my 2000 with a 99 panel with tachometer. Now everything works fine. I guess the 8th generation clusters are interchangable to year 2000 without mods. 2001-2002 will work, but adjustments will need to be done.
