So I was having an issue with my starter on my 2007 1.8l Corolla and noticed the male plug in connector that plugs into the starter was broke and hanging off. The connectors are no good now. Toyota is telling me I need to change the whole engine harness to fix this issue. I was just going to look for a 1 pin connector to splice in and heat shrink the splice. Anyone see any issues with that? Also besides a junkyard any idea where to buy the correct connector. Thanks in advance

If you get the connector, cut back 3-6". This is just in case.

Nothing wrong with this. Just check your work with a voltage meter. I have had some mishaps where the wire core broke off and had no voltage or resistance. And this of course was after heat shrink and install.

Of course Toyota told you to buy a whole new harness, SMH. I would just get a replacement connector pigtail from a junkyard and solder/splice it to your existing wires. If you don't want to go to a junkyard, Toyota might be able to get the connector, though, if you get the right guy/gal at the parts counter who's willing to look it up. It will help if you show him a photo of the connector. When he looks it up, he has several pages of diagrams of connectors, which is why the photo will help. I'd be willing to get one for you the next time I go to a junkyard, but the problem is that I'm not planning on going anytime soon.

Here's one. I found that there's a subharness for the alternator to the fuse box. Dealer says, I have to buy the harness. I says, look again.

There's subharnesses, they just make more money selling the whole harness. I think it's like $1k
Yeah lol. Funniest I ever heard of was when fiber optics was first introduced in euro cars. We heard of accidents where if the brand new cars fiber optic cable was damaged - written off lol.
