The latch that secures the lid for my center console broke, so the lid flies up and down when braking. Called two Toyota dealers to locate the replacement part and they said it's not available by itself...you have to buy the entire console lid for $695. Seems a bit outrageous considering some piece of inexpensive plastic or metal just broke.

Anyone have this experience or suggestions on how to repair?

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 2012 Sequoia, and I’ve been driving around for a year with the top of the console flying up every time I go over a bump. I had refused to pay the $1200 my local dealership wanted to charge me to fix it.
Yesterday I came up with an idea and fixed it for less than $15. I bought a brick magnet, amending plate, and some JB weld at Lowes. The magnet fit perfectly in the crevice where the latch would attach. I set that in with JB weld. Then I screwed the mending plate into the piece that fit into the crevice and also use JB Weld to make sure it would never come out.
It’s not pretty, but it works like a charm. Hope this helps.
