Maybe it is the park/neutral safety switch. See if it starts in neutral as opposed to park.

 

I tried that and it won't start in neutral.

 

Check your key for bending.

See if you have power on the smaller (black?) wire going to the starter when you turn the key. If you do check the starter. If not, start working back upstream to starter relay and fuses. and find out where the power is. Page 80 below for 07 model. Do you have anti-theft on this car?

if there engine was cranking normal why the hek did you take the starter off

 

The engine was not cranking at first, thats why I took the starter off to check it. After I pushed the Park bypass button it started. Now it won't start again even after I press the button.

What about the park/neutral position switch. Does it go bad often? $200 to replace it.

 

Try testing the switch if you can, or get one at a junkyard on a lower mileage car, if possible. Not common to fail IMO.

A little cheaper at Rock Auto,

 

Press the lockout button on your shifter and put it in neutral. If it starts, then the park/neutral switch is bad.

 

Well I found the problem. I did as told and checked every component of the starting system. I felt the starter relay and when I tried to start it and it did not feel like it was clicking so I replaced it. Still didn't work, checked all the fuses they were all okay. Took the park/neutral switch off and ohmed it out it was ok. The plug that plugged into it was working right. The starter had 12 volts from the battery and the wire that energized the solenoid was doing what it was supposed to. That told me it had to be the starter, but I had already checked it out and it worked. So I took the starter to another auto shop and had it checked and it worked fine. So what now? I remember from when I use to work on tractors and rebuilt starters and generators. You would find a starter that would have a bad segment in the armature and if the brushes landed on on that segment it would not turn over. So I bought a new starter thinking this was what was going on. Put it on and it started right up. Tested it about 20 times and it started every time. Man that was a lot of work to figure that one out. Drove it to work this morning and all is well. Hope this helps someone else

 

Great work. Though if you jumped the socket for the starter, it would have yielded similar result for engagement. This test is what I did to rule out my starter on my Mazda.
